Reed Flute Cave


Reed Flute Cave, Guilin is one of the major Guilin Tourist Attractions. Located on Guangming Hill, in the northwestern part of the town, Reed Flute Cave, Guilin is a natural wonder. It is also the largest cave in this region. Its name came from the fact that reeds used for making flutes and pipes that have been growing here from the ancients times.

Reed Flute Cave in Guilin is 790 feet deep. The visitors need to walk down for about 550 yards following a zigzag garden of stalactites and stalagmites in bright colors. Reed Flute Cave, Guilin is known as a ' Palace of Natural Art'. But artificial lighting is used to enhance the beauty if this natural wonder. Lights are focused in a way to bring out various shapes from the rock formation such as plants, birds and other animals. There are several grottoes inside the cave. One grotto is known as The Crystal Palace of the Dragon King with an area which is like a miniature Guilin. More than 70 wall inscriptions are found in Reed Flute Cave, Guilin. These inscriptions, from the Tang Period (618-907 AD) tell the story of the cave.

Due to its exceptional features, Reed Flute Cave, Guilin tops the list for Sightseeing in Guilin. Inside the cave there is a wonderland of stalactites and stalagmites. This 240 meter cave is illuminated with colored lighting. The congested stone pillars, the transparent stalactites hanging from the roof create a peculiar yet magical world.

As the visitors enter Reed Flute Cave, Guilin they follow a U-shaped route. A trip inside the cave takes about one hour. During the trip you will see the Crystal Palace, Dragon Pagoda, Virgin Forest, Flower and Fruit Mountain in Reed Flute Cave in Guilin. As the names are interesting the stories behind the naming the spots are more interesting.

There is a park outside Reed Flute Cave in Guilin with meandering walkways, Chinese pavilions, ponds, bridges, flower plants and several interesting garden structures. Reed Flute Cave, Guilin remains open from 8am to 5:30pm. Each group of visitors are given 3 hours of time to take a trip inside the cave.
