Bamboo Temple



The Bamboo Temple, Kunming is a major tourist attraction for the tourists coming down to Kunming for a fun filled holiday. The temple is visited by thousands every year for its beauty and the pivotal position it holds in the tourism map of Kunming. Located on the beautiful Yunnan Mountains, the Bamboo Temple, Kunming is worth a visit as the temple offers a brilliant view of the city of Kunming which lies at a distance of about 7 kilometers from this spot. The gate of the temple is adorned by the tall cypress trees which are believed to be planted in the ancient times. The beauty of the Bamboo Temple in Kunming is further enhanced with the presence of the sparkling springs and the streams which flows almost along the temple through the forest and the valleys. The backyard of the temple is well planted with the lush green bamboo which makes the place even more beautiful. The bamboo which fills up the whole place is called as the Qiongzhu-a kind of bamboo.

As legend would have it, the place was named after two brothers of Tang dynasty who were hunting near the site. The brothers spotted a rhinoceros and they chased it until it vanished in the woods. Later they found monks sitting their meditating. But to their amazement they found bamboo trees covering the place. They took the signs to be a nice one from Buddha and built the temple. From the time it started to be called as the Qiongzhu Temple or the Bamboo Temple, Kunming.

Today, the temple is one of the famed tourism destinations in Kunming region.
