Ramoche Monastery

If you are in Lhasa for the first time and planning a sightseeing trip then do not miss to check out Ramoche Monastery, Lhasa. The various displays have made this ancient monastery one of the popular tourist destinations. So come and pay a visit to the Ramoche Monastery, Lhasa.

A general overview of Ramoche Monastery, Lhasa
Located in the northwest of Lhasa covering an area of 4000 square meters the said monastery was built in the middle of the 7th century by Han Chinese architects. Han Princess Wencheng herself took the charge of seeing that everything went right during the construction of the temple. It was her decision that the temple should face East. But this beautiful specimen of Tang architecture suffered various damages and was reconstructed several times. The present temple is the result of the large restoration of 1986.

Besides being a popular tourist attraction this temple is again one of the key cultural relic protection sites of the Tibet Autonomous Region. This monastery has also become the place for the Tibetan monks to study the Mi Zong. In short the temple shows wonderful amalgamation of Han and Tibetan architectural styles.

What to see inside Ramoche Monastery, Lhasa
As you enter the main building check out the ten pillars displaying Tibetan relics such as the encased lotus flowers, coiling cloud, jewelry, and particular Tibetan Characters.

Then visit all the three stories. In the first storey you get to see an atrium, a scripture hall and a Buddha palace with winding corridors. Do not forget to have a glimpse of the bedroom in the third story, once reserved for Dalai Lama.

There is no doubt that the golden peak of the temple will make you spellbound. Here you can have a glimpse of the Han-style upturned eave. This peak can be seen from any direction in Lhasa city.
