Christmas in Lhasa is celebrated with great enjoyment and fun. Christmas in Lhasa is a festival which is celebrated by all the people of all ages. People celebrate the birth of Jesus on this day.

Christians in Lhasa is celebrated by lighting their houses with beautiful paper lanterns and decorating Christmas trees. The people call this tree as "Trees of Light". They decorate these trees with paper chains, paper flowers, and paper lanterns. The children hang muslin stockings and wait for a visit from Santa Claus, whom they call Dun Che Lao Ren which means "Christmas Old Man.".

The figure who visits children is known as Dun Che Lao Ren. There are church services given in Chinese as well as English. Children send Christmas cards portraying the Holy Family in a Chinese setting. Public places are decorated with nativities, poinsettias, streamers and paper chains.

In Lhasa, it is mainly Christians who celebrate Christmas in Lhasa. For everyone else, the Chinese New Year is the big event of the season. The New Year starts with the New Moon on the first day of the New Year and ends on the full moon 15 days later. The 15th day of the New Year in Lhasa is called the Lantern Festival. It is celebrated at night with lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a procession. This festival marks the beginning of the new Chinese calendar year.

The Christmas in Lhasa is celebrated with great fun. The people and the children make paper lanterns to decorate their house. Then they set up a Tree of Light, or Christmas tree, and adorn it with paper chains, paper flowers and paper lanterns. These trees are usually not natural. Then the children hang stockings that are filled with small presents. The children eagerly expect Dun Che Lao Ren or Christmas Old Man to visit their houses. The people also participate in local festivals which happen in many parts of Lhasa. These festivals may or may not be directly associated with Christmas. The Chinese Christians go to churches. The parents buy gifts for their children which includes new clothes and toys. The people of Lhasa celebrate Christmas in Lhasa with much color and vibrancy.
