The Red Palace used to be the place where Buddhist monks offered their prayers. It houses the Great West Hall, The Saint's Chapel and many galleries.

The Chimpu Caves are situated towards the northeastern part of the Samye Monastery. The caves offered the monks a peaceful gateway from the long hours of study.
