Lugu Lake

Lugu Lake, Lijiang lies at a distance of approximately 200 or 124 miles from the heart of Lijiang City. This scenic lake sits on the border between Ninglang County in Yunnan Province and Yanyuan County in Sichuan Province. Lugu Lake, Lijiang looks like a beautiful shiny pearl located among the verdant hills of the northwest plateau that surround it in the Yunnan Province.

The shape of Lugu Lake in Lijiang resembles that of a horse's hoof and is long from north to south, and tapers down from east to west. One of the main highlights of this lake is its ever-changing vista that evokes varying feelings and emotions at different times of the day.

The Lugu Lake in Lijiang looks its best during morning time when mist mixed with the light of the rising sun imparts an orange glow to the lake. When the sunlight reflected from the surrounding hills falls onto the water, the lake looks jade green in color. At the time of dusk the placid waters of the lake appear dark green in color and the lake transforms into an impeccable imagery of heaven in the night when its waters reflect the star lit sky above.

There are five islands on the Lugu Lake, Lijiang. All these islands are of different sizes and look like green boats floating on the water. Of these, Heiwawu Island, Liwubi Island, and Lige Island are the most notable ones. Heiwawu Island is located in the center of the lake and is home to a rich and colorful variety of birds. The Nixi Island is the smallest island on the lake and is basically an oblong rock that is covered with shrubs and moss. Apart from the five islands, Lugu Lake in Lijiang also has three peninsulas and a small island which is connected to a seawall on the shore by a paved pathway made of small stones.

The unspoiled charm of this lake and its islands attracts many tourists to visit this place. The pleasant weather here makes it even more convenient for the tourists to come to this place all round the year.
