Largo do Senado

The Largo do Senado, Macau is one of the sophisticated locales of Macau and one of the premier Macau tourist attractions. The Largo do Senado, Macau constitutes a polished and glossy surfaced area of Macau where you are advised to tread carefully, lest you slip on its frictionless and shiny surfaces. The Largo do Senado, Macau houses many sophisticated and ancient edifices such as the Leal Senado and the St. Dominic's Church.

The Leal Senado in the precincts of the Largo do Senado in Macau was the center of administration when Macau was under the suzerainty of the Portuguese. The name 'Leal Senado' was given by the Portuguese ruler João who subsequently ascended the royal throne of Portugal to become Emperor John VI of his nation. However, when Macau became part of the Chinese territory at the fag end of the twentieth century, the Leal Senado was renamed as the Institute of Civic & Municipal Affairs by the Chinese premiers. Currently, several official functions are carried out from the Institute of Civic & Municipal Affairs.

The other attraction of the Largo do Senado, Macau is the St. Dominic's Church. The fascinating St. Dominic's Church was constructed about four-hundred years ago on the spot where stood an old chapel. The exteriors of the St. Dominic's Church sport enticing ochre shades with the doors and windows being coated in a lovely viridian hue. The St. Dominic's Church is guarded by two imposing palm trees who have acted as its sentinels for several years. The steeple of the St. Dominic's Church is crowned by a magnificent crucifix which can be seen from the different corners of Macau. On entering the Church premises, the tourists are enveloped by a sublime feeling as they walk softly on its parquet floors.

The entire area of the Largo do Senado, Macau is deemed to be a heritage locale by many international bodies such as those of the United Nations.
