An ancient architectural marvel, Chaotian Gong, Nanjing occupies an area of approximately 70,000 square meters. It is one of the most imposing and broad scale edifices in the region. The premises of Chaotian Gong, Nanjing is the most complete preservation of Qing Dynasty temple of Confucian learning in Changnan area.

It is said that the Chaotian Gong, Nanjing was built as the workshop for weapon refinement by Wu Wangfu. Later, rulers of the following dynasties kept on using the palace and built temples. After the Ming Dynasty made Nanjing the capital, the heavenly Chaotian Gong, Nanjing became the place to hold magnificent ceremonies, for royalties to practice the royal etiquette and was also the place for junior bureaucrats to study the dynasty's civil and military aspects. There are altogether 6 stages with 11 procedures as the part of etiquettes at the Chaotian Gong, Nanjing, namely harnesses the good fortune, enters the table, the biography system, visiting, dancing to music and return to palace.

Performances were regularly held at the Chaotian Gong, Nanjing. The number of actors reached 250 and a number of plays took place at the palace during its heydays. For the public viewing the Chaotian Gong, Nanjing remains open from 8 AM to 5 PM.
