Confucian Temple



Confucian Temple, Nanjing is one of the places of religious importance and serves as a place for consecrating and worshipping Confucius. Nanjing Confucius Temple is located in the south of the city center on the bank of the Qinhuai River. It is a place for worshipping Confucius, the great thinker and educator of ancient China. It was first built in Song Dynasty (A.D.1034). It was built in the first year of Jingyou. The prayers and sacrifices were offered to Confucius here.

Confucian Temple, Nanjing first built in the Song dynasty was destroyed by the flames of wars for many times and been rebuilt for several times. The architecture was ruined and the temple was rebuilt in Qing Dynasty (A.D.1869). It was seriously ruined by the Japanese aggressor troops in 1937. After its destruction, the Chinese Government earmarked funds to rebuild and fix the Confucius Temple. It also served as the examination site during the Gongyuan in Ming and Ch'ing Dynasties. In the end of Ch'ing Dynasty, it was the place where sacrifices were offered to Confucius.

The temple of Confucius, Nanjing, is a remarkable spot which attracts many visitors. It is regarded as the special scenery of Nanjing. In 1991, the Confucius Temple was also elected as one of the best sites in the "Forty Best Scenery Spots". It is a must visit for people on Nanjing Tours.

In front of the temple you can see a Lune pond in front of the gate. On the south bank of the pond, there is a screen wall piled with bricks, it is one of the three extant screen walls in Nanjing City. You can also take a tour through the many ancient buildings in the temple, such as Great Achievement Hall, Virtue Hall, Blue Cloud Tower, and so on and know more about the culture and the history of the China and its province- Nanzing.
