Located on the western side of Hanzhong Lu, Mochou Lake, Nanjing is counted among the top rated Nanjing Tourist Attractions. Mochou Lake in Nanjing is one of the most popular locales of sightseeing in Nanjing. The lake occupies an area of about 116 acres. Mochou Lake, Nanjing was once a part of the Yangtze River. Gradually, a lake was formed as the course of the river changed later.

There is a legend regarding the formation of the lake. In the year 1929, the lake was renamed as Mochou Lake, Nanjing. A rapid expansion took place in 1953 with trees and flowers added to the area. The area of Mochou Lake, Nanjing has an ornate pond and a number of excellent fountains. The fabulous rock displays at the surroundings of Mochou Lake, Nanjing. Do not miss to visit the well-known Shengqi Pavilion. It is a simple two-storey structure.

On the first floor of the Shengqi Pavilion in the premises of Mochou Lake, Nanjing, paintings and calligraphies of famous artists can be found. On the second floor, you will find a picture of two men playing I-go, one is Emperor Taizu named Zhu Yuanzhang of the Ming Dynasty and the other man is one of his subjects, General Xu Da. According to the legend, the emperor gifted the Shengqi Pavilion and the lake to General Xu Da. To the north of the Shengqi Pavilion is Yujin Hall, the former residence of Mochou.

Behind the pavilion where the lady lived is the Mochou Lake, Nanjing. When the water lilies bloom to their full, it is truly a delight to glance at the Mochou Lake. The island at the center of the lake is open to the tourists for lily viewing. All through the year you will see water fowls inhabiting the island. Since 1991, the Mochou Lake, Nanjing has been the host to dragon boat races every year that display Chinese culture and great pageantry.
