The Jade Buddha Temple, Shanghai is a famous Buddhist temple in Shanghai. The Jade Buddha Temple, Shanghai draws from the traditions of Mahayana Buddhism. Founded in 1882, the temple had two jade Buddha statues which were imported to Shanghai from Burma by the sea route. The Buddha statues were a sitting Buddha measuring 1.95 meters and weighing 3 tones and a smaller reclining Buddha which represents death. Presently, the temple has even a larger reclining Buddha which was donated from Singapore.
