Also known as the Cold Mountain temple, the Hanshan Hill, Suzhou is of the popular tourist attractions in Suzhou. Famous for its bell rings and rich Buddhist culture, the Hanshan Hill, Suzhou is a popular tourist draw.

Cold Mountain Temple or the Hanshan Hill, Suzhou is also known as called Hanshan Si in Pinyin. It is located at a distance of five kilometers from Fengqiao Old Town in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province and can be easily accessed from any point of the city.

It is believed that at time of the Tang Dynasty, a notable monk called Han Shan administered the services of the temple. Hence, the temple was named after this monk. The building work started during the Liang Dynasty. Some repair and reconstruction work continued for long following into the later dynasties.

The Hanshan Hill, Suzhou sprawls across an area of 10,600 square meters. It is the true symbol of the architectural style of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The majestic Hanshan Hill in Suzhou has several attractive features. Among them, the Grand Prayer Hall, Sutra-Collection Building, Bell Tower, Fengjiang Pavilion and Tablets Corridor are some of the notable attractions of the temple.

The year 1995 saw the building of a five-storey Buddhism pagoda at the Hanshan Hill, Suzhou. This was known as the Puming Pagoda measuring up to about 138 feet. Soon this building was to embody the true spirit of the temple.

You must not miss some of the other major attractions at the Hanshan Hill, Suzhou. Some of the other features which make the Hanshan Hill in Suzhou one of the popular Suzhou tourist attractions include several historical remains. Among them the statue of Han Shan, the inscriptions of the poem A Night Mooring near Maple Bridge and some other tablet inscriptions written by creative personalities of ancient China.

Hanshan Hill, Suzhou is widely known for its bells. The most popular bell described in Zhang Ji's poem disappeared several years ago. The bell which can be seen today was made on the lines of the previous one in 1904. Every year on New Year's Eve according to China's lunar calendar, the bell is rung to welcome the coming year with full of happiness and prosperity.
