The Banpo Neolithic Village, Xian is one of the most visited and popular spots of sightseeing in Xian

The Banpo Site of the Banpo Neolithic Village, Xianis a typical Neolithic matriarchal community dating back about 6,000 years. The women of the village were the crucial labor force and were responsible for making pottery, spinning, and raising the family. Sources prove that the main occupation of the men folks of the Banpo Neolithic Village was fishing.

The Banpo Neolithic Village in Xian during this period was known as Yangshao. In the excavations, 45 houses, 6 pottery kilns, 200 storage pits, 250 adult's tombs and children's burial jars, 10,000 tools and utensils were unearthed. At that time, the Banpo people used tools made primarily of stone and wood. The domestic tools used by the primitive people of Banpo included chisels, axes, sickles, stone and pottery knives. In addition to the artwork and adornments, the items found reflect the social life, culture, art and inventions of the period.

The distinct culture of the people of Banpo Neolithic Village, Xian was known as the Yangshao culture. The most interesting aspect of this is that Yangshao culture was very artificial. One can see more female tombs and graves here than male, and the women's graves contain more valuables and objects than their male counterparts do. All these findings combined together present us an outlook of the aboriginal village and the life style of the forefathers, reflecting the production level and the social systems at that period of time.

The Banpo Matriarchal Clan Community Village is an extension of the museum that is based on the archeological findings. The Banpo Neolithic Village enriches the cultural connotation of the museum and carries forward the long and rich history of China at the same time.
