The Forest of Steles, Xian is one of the most visited and popular tourist attractions in Xian. Whenever you come to Xian, do not forget to include it in your itinerary, otherwise you may miss out something very significant of your trip. The Forest of Steles in Xi'an was first built in the second year of Yuanyou in the Northern Song Dynasty (1087 AD). It has 8 spacious exhibition rooms, 8 pavilions and 8 corridors with a floor space of 3,000 square meters. Around 2,420 blocks of famous stone tablets of the Han Dynasty, the Tang Dynasty and the successive dynasties are present in this forest.

In the Museum of the Forest of Steles, you can see around 1089 stone tablets on exhibit. Among the renowned stone tablets of calligraphy there are the Tablet to Cao Quan in the Han Dynasty and the Tablet to General Guangwu in the Former Qin. In the museum, you will also find the most outstanding works of the leading calligraphists such as Cai Yong of the Han Dynasty, Li Si of the Qin Dynasty, Zhi Yong of the Sui Dynasty and Ouyang Xun, Wang Xizhi of the Jin Dynasty, Yu Shinan, Zhu Suiliang, Yan Zhenqing, Liu Gongquan, Zhang Xu and Huai Su of the Tang Dynasty.

The works of Yan Zhenqing itself occupies 7 blocks of stone tablets. In the collections of the Forest of Steles, Xian there is a huge amount of the ancient literature works and documentation. Among these collections, the Kaicheng Inscriptions of Classics on Stone alone covers 114 tablets with 0.65 million Chinese characters. The stone tablet that contains 'How Is the Christianity Spread in China' is considered as the first record of such subject in the history of China. In addition to all these, a large amount of art treasures, such as the famous Six Legendary Horses as well as other stone carvings and inscriptions for religious use and for tombs of the Han and the Tang dynasties are also well preserved in the Forest of Steles, Xian.
