Mount Lishan, Xian is among some of the most visit and popular tourist attractions in Xian. The Mount Lishan is situated on the north side of Mount Qinling. The name of the mountain translates in English to "Black Horse Mountain". It is named so because its shape resembles that of a horse. The Mount Lishan, Xian became a royal retreat during the Tang Dynasty. Emperors liked climbing this mountain or more likely being carried in their sedans atop this mountain. According to legend, on the east of the hill is the spot where the Emperor Xuanzong and his concubine Lady Yang made solemn promises to love one another for ever!
There is a pavilion taht rises up out of thick grass on the slope approaching the Huaqing Hot Springs. It was at this spot that on 12th of December, 1936, Chiang Kai-shek was taken as a prisoner by two of his officers. After that, he was forced to join with the Communists in the struggle against the Japanese invaders.
