The discovery of the Polynesians, Atiu is situated 187 kilometers northeast of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. The Airport in Atiu is the major source of communication in the region of Atiu. The main reason behind the demolition of the airport was the war that was going on during this period. The authorities of the region did not want planes from other lands to enter this region.

After the demolition of the first airport, the people of the region felt the need of an airport and then the second Airport in Atiu was built. The second Airport in Atiu was built in the year 1978. The airport is named as Enua Airport. The major airline that operates from the Enua Airport is Air Rarotonga. Air Rarotonga is an airline based in Rarotonga, which is the capital city of Cook Islands. The airline started operations in July 1978 with a Cessna 337 aircraft. This airline connects the region of Atiu with Aitutaki, Mitiaro Island and Rarotonga. You can fly directly from Rarotonga to Atiu and back four times a week. The Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays are the days when you will get direct flights to Rarotonga from the Enua Airport.

The other flights that are available from the Airport in Atiu are from Aitutaki to Atiu, which generally operates on Tuesdays. The Airport in Atiu is a small place where there is limited space, but the entire area is very picturesque. There is no crowd of people and the place is very neat and tidy.
