Aitutaki is an integral part of the Cook Islands. It is not only the second most visited islands of the Cook Islands but also the most frequented one too. The capital of Aitutaki that is Arutanga is the main village of this island located on the western side.

Aitutaki is an atoll and the highest point of the atoll is Maunga Pu in the northernmost point. A barrier reef is the main basis of Aitutaki and it has the shape of an equilateral triangle having sides which are 12 kilometers in length. The southern edge of Aitutaki is completely submerged whereas the eastern side of the triangle has a string of islands.

Tourism is the main industry of Aitutaki. This island survives on the revenue that it gets from the various tourists. The main tourist attractions of Aitutaki are the central lagoon with its turquoise waters, the various uninhabited islands and the palm fringed beaches. An important tourist attraction of Aitutaki is the old church which is the oldest church of Cook Islands. The gigantic banyan trees are the other attractions of this island of Cook Islands.

When you are in Aitutaki, then you should visit the One Foot Island. It is a small islet on the south-east of this lagoon and is regarded as the most important attraction of the tourists. You can get the best view of Aitutaki from this islet and during low tide you can even walk on the sand bank which is located a bit away from the Cook Islands.

There are two other islets of Aitutaki which are also worth watching. One of them is Rapota and the other one is Moturakau. Both of these islets were the location of the famous television series Shipwrecked in 2000 as well as in 2006.

There are various activities in which you can indulge while you are in Aitutaki. Most of these are water sports and these include swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling and para-sailing. Those of you who are interested in deep sea fishing, they can also indulge in this hobby since Aitutaki offers excellent deep sea fishing options.
