Guanacaste

Guanacaste is situated in the northwestern part of the country along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. Nicaragua borders the north part of Guanacaste. To the east is the Alajuela Province is situated and to the southeast is the Puntarenas Province. The capital of Guanacaste is Liberia.

Guanacaste is further subdivided into 11 capitals:

  • Abangares
  • Bagaces
  • Caņas
  • Carrillo
  • La Cruz
  • Liberia
  • Nandayure
  • Nicoya
  • Santa Cruz
  • Tilaran

Majority of the population in Guanacaste go downs from a mix of Chorotega Native Americans, Spaniards. As in Nicaragua and Costa Rica, Guanacastecans use the used colligation upon initial meetings, instead of tu, but once they have established a friendship, Guanacastecans use the vos colligation.

The Guanacaste culture has been productively included into the mainstream culture. In the middle of the main elements are their music, literature, musical instruments, bullfighting and religious events.

The weather of Guanacaste and culture are exclusive among Costa Rican provinces. The province experiences little rain and steady heat from November to April. The tourists seek out this dry heat during the North American winter to enjoy the magnificent Guanacastecan beaches. From May to October the weather is similar to that of San Jose, which consists of daily rainfall and reasonable temperatures. Guanacaste is significantly warmer than provinces residing in higher altitudes.

There are many National Parks in Guanacaste. The national parks include:
    • Isla Bolanos Biological Reserve
    • Santa Rosa National Park
    • Guanacaste National Park
    • Rincon de la Vieja National Park
    • Barra Honda National Park
    • Palo Verde National Park
    • Lomas Barbudal Biological Reserve
    • Las Baulas Marine National Park
    • Tamarindo National Wildlife Refuge
    • Ostional National Wildlife Refuge
In Guanacaste the agricultural products of comparative importance in the province are sugar cane and cotton. Since the late 1980's, with the formation of a large-scale irrigation program, rice has become an important crop. The tourism, of course, is presently the region's most profitable activity. Guanacaste is blessed by having many of the country most beautiful beaches of the country and its sunlit dry season agrees with the winter months in northern latitudes.
