World Heritage Sites in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is conveniently located between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The country’s spectacular landscape and the moderate climate make it a favorite destination for holiday makers, all over. There are three World Heritage Sites in Costa Rica. The World Heritage Sites in Costa Rica are worth a visit when you enjoy your holidays in the country.

The Area de Conservacion Guanacaste is a World Heritage Site in Costa Rica, which comprises Santa Rosa, Guanacaste, Rincón de la Vieja National Parks and the Junquillal Bay Wildlife Refuge. It was given the status of a World Heritage site in 1999

Cocos Island is the most popular of World Heritage Sites in Costa Rica. It is an island located off the shore of Costa Rica. It is one of the National Parks of Costa Rica. It is a favored destination of scuba divers for its populations of Hammerhead sharks, rays and dolphins.

The La Amistad International Park is the third of the Heritage Sites in Costa Rica. It is an international peace park and the management of the park is shared by Costa Rica and Panama.

Cocos Island in Costa Rica has been granted World Heritage status because of the huge quantity of marine life which you can find in its close proximity. According to the February 1996 issue of Scuba Diving Magazine, Isla Del Coco is second in the Americas for the amount of larger animal species inhabiting its waters.

The water around the island is ideal for diving. Hammerhead Sharks, giant Manta rays, giant Moray eels, bottle nose dolphins are found plentiful here. You can also see Moorish Idols, large schools of jack and tuna, Creole fish, lobsters, octopus and other various reef lives in this region. Silky sharks, silver tips, sailfish, marlin, and green turtles are also abundant in the area.

The best time for diving in Cocos Island is between May to December. During this time of the year you will find the most inclement sea conditions and strongest currents. You can enjoy the possibility of sighting the biggest animals at this time.
