The city of Pula is located at the southern tip of the peninsula and is the largest city in Istria. The city is on and beneath seven hills which are Monte Zaro, Monte Serpente, Monte Ghiro, Monte Magno, Monte Paradiso, Monte Rizzi and Monte Vidal. Pula was the headquarters of the Austro-Hungarian Navy from the 19th century to World War I. It became the part of the Kingdom of Italy from 1918 to 1947.
