The city of Split is one of many popular Tourist Destinations in Croatia. The country is located at the crossroads of Central Europe, Mediterranean and the Balkans. The capital is the city of Zagreb. The city of Split is in the center of the province of Dalmatia. It is located 150 kilometers north of the city of Dubrovnik.

In 1797 with the fall of the Venetians, Split in Croatia came under the Austrians then briefly under the French. Late it became part of Yugoslavia that was formed in 1918. The Italians occupied the city in 1941 till it was liberated in 1943. The first people's government of Croatia was formed in October 1944.
Getting to Split is easy as it is connected by rail, road, air and ferry. There are flights from Zagreb and other international cities. There are numerous trains from Zagreb which takes around five and half hours. Bus service is also available from different parts of Croatia to Split. Ferry services connect Croatian city of Split with the Adriatic islands Hvar, Brac, Vis and Lastovo.
