Sancti Spiritus is one of the significant provinces in Cuba. The capital city bears the same name as Sancti Spiritus. Trinidad is the other eminent city in this province. Sancti Spiritus is well-visited by tourists from various parts of the nation as well as overseas.

The total area of the province of Sancti Spiritus is about 6,736.51 square kilometers. Few of the territorial districts of this province include, Jaruco, Fomento, Cabaiguan. Yaguajay and Taguasco.

The southern coastal part of the province of Sancti Spiritus in Cuba features a plain land. The western part of the province features hilly areas. The coastal part to the north of this province comprises secured areas and wetlands – Caguanes National Parka nd Bay of Buena Vista. Marshlands and mangroves characterize the south-eastern part of Sancti Spiritus.

The Embalse Zaz which is the largest artificial reservoir in the nation of Cuba, is located in the province of Sancti Spiritus.

It was during the 1600’s when both the British and the Dutch pirates made efforts to seize the province of Sancti Spiritus. However, it was then prevented by the Spanish forces.

Travel and tourism plays an important role in the economy of the province. The old city of Trinidad is the most popular place to be visited in the province of Sancti Spiritus. This city acquired a position in the World Heritage List. This city harbors various buildings and structures reflecting colonial art and architecture. The major production of the region includes cattle and sugarcane. Rice and tobacco are also cultivated here to some extent. Farming areas can be spotted between Zaza River, Zaza Reservoir and Jatibonico River.

The city of Sancti Spiritus was established by Diego Velazquez de Cuellar. In Latin, Sancti Spiritus means Holy Spirit. The green-towered church, Parroquial Mayor is an attractive place to visit. Another attraction in Sancti Spiritus is the Museo de Arte Colonial.
