Colon Cemetery, Havana, better known as Cementerio de Cristóbal Colón, was established in the year1876. It is situated in the Vedado region of Havana in Cuba. Colon Cemetery, Havana was named after Christopher Columbus. Colon Cemetery, Havana is actually a 140-acre cemetery, which is renowned for its ornately sculpted monuments. It is figured out today that this cemetery has over 500 major tombs, family vaults and chapels.

There is a 75-feet-high monument in the Colon Cemetery, Havana. This is dedicated to the firefighters who lost their lives in the devastating fire of 17th May in the year1890. Since the baseball is the significant sport in Cuba, the cemetery has two different monuments to baseball players from the Cuban League. The first monument was founded in the year 1942 and the second in monument was erected in the year1951 for members of the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame.

In February of 1898, the recovered bodies of the dead sailors, who lost their lives in the battleship of United States Navy, were entombed in the Colon Cemetery, Havana. In December 1899, the different bodies were exhumed and fetched back to the United States for burial at Arlington National Cemetery.

Colon Cemetery, Havana has more than 800,000 graves at present. This cemetery, after the three years, boasts of a load of tombs, boxed and placed in a storage building.

Some famous personalities were entombed in this Colon Cemetery, Havana. Santiago Álvarez- the eminent filmmaker, Manuel Arteaga y Betancourt-the Roman Catholic Cardinal, Beatriz Azurduy Palacios- the filmmaker, Hubert de Blanck- the renowned composer were interred at this cemetery. Some more well-known personalities like Alejo Carpentier, Eduardo Chibás, Juan Chabás, Ibrahim Ferrer, José Miguel Gómez, Máximo Gómez, Nicolás Guillén, Nicolás Guillén Landrián and Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, José Lezama Lima, Dulce María Loynaz, William Alexander Morgan and German Pinelli are buried here.
