Jose Lezama Lima House, Havana is one of the most well known and most frequently visited Tourist Attractions in Havana. This museum is located near downtown in Colón which is one of the most popular quarters in the city. Jose Lezama Lima House, Havana is dedicated to the memory of the great writer who lived there for 47 years. The museum is housed in a building which was for apartment leasing. Jose Lezama Lima and his mother leased one of such apartments.

History has it that Lezama stayed in that house since 1929. This is the place which became the very centre of his creation and soon, it became a cultural hub. Since he was 30, he lived here until he died. He wrote here some of the most outstanding poems and most famous novels. There are six rooms at the museum which feature collections displaying personal objects of the writer, small decorative pieces, documents and part of his extensive library. You will also find a representative art gallery at the Jose Lezama Lima House, Havana and it exhibits works of the most important artists along with artists from other parts of the world. There is also is an amazing personal collection of art works, gifts of his friends like Victor Manuel, Mariano Rodriguez and Rene Portocarrero.

It is said that the poet himself called the rooms of his house ‘the mysteries’. The original atmosphere and the baroque spirit of Lezama’s decorations have been retained in the house. Also, new objects were added like works of sculptors and painter friends of him and unique little figures which have been immortalized in the Paradiso.

Lezama Lima House, Havana has been a witness of a period which marked a watershed in the Cuban culture, the decade of the 40’s. Writers who belonged to the generation of Orígenes were guests of Lezama at the house. There are evidences of meetings between some of the literary and cultural figures of that time. Lezama Lima House in Havana is located at 162 Trocadero, between Industria and Consulado in Centro Habana. The museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 hours to 17:00 hours. On Sundays, you can come between 9:00 hours and 13:00 hours.
