Museum of the Revolution, Havana

The Museum of the Revolution, Havana is situated in the building which was the former residence of the presidents of the Republic from 1920 till 1960. The building is colorful and has large dome along with mixture of styles. The Museum of the Revolution, Havana is the designed by the famous architects of Maruri of Cuba and Jan Beleu of Belgium. The duo came up with this design which has a harmonious combination of Spanish, French and German architecture in it.

The building was originally designed to accommodate the Provincial Government of Havana and the construction of the building was completed in 1920 to become the Presidential Palace. When it was the headquarters of the Cuban government, the museum saw the maneuver of the destiny of the nation by the politicians. The movements were caught in the cross-fire between national interests and the pro U. S. politics of the officials. On March 23, 1957, the Presidential palace was stormed by a group of University students to assassinate the dictator Fulgencio Batista. But the attempt failed and most of the attackers were killed in the event. This event along with the attack on the Moncada barracks was the beginning of the last stage of the Cuban revolution.

The Museum of the Revolution, Havana has as rich display of the rise of the Cuban nation till the present days. The exhibits present are on the History of Cuba, Weapons, Archaeology, Paintings and Sculptures. On the outside of the museum is the "Granma Memorial", which is a big glass display case of the ship which was used by Fidel Castro along with other combatants who had returned from exile in Mexico to Cuba.

The Museum of the Revolution, Havana is open 365 days a year.
