The Museum of Decorative Arts, Havana is located in the Vedado district of Havana. It is present in the former residence of the Maria Luisa Gomez Mena viuda de Cagiga. Maria was the countess of Revilla de Camargo and sister of Jose Gomez Mena, the owner of the Manzana de Gomez. The architecture of The Museum of Decorative Arts, Havana is by the Paris designer P. Virad and M. Destuque who were inspired by the French revolution.
The Museum of Decorative Arts, Havana was built in between 1924 and 1927 in a neo-classical style. There are permanent and temporary exhibitions of European and Asian colored samples. Here, one can see applied arts, ceramics, furniture, paintings, China wares and sculptures belonging to 19th an d20th centuries. The museum houses an astounding display of treasure from antique furniture, Aubusson rugs, Ming vases and a Louis XVI secretaire. One can also see paintings by Tocqua, Nattier and Largilliare. There is a bathroom upstairs which is worth seeing. Also, present are the gardens with some giant bronze dogs which guard the door, which was known as El jardan de Noche or The Night Garden. There is a nice terrace garden at the Museum.
The Museum of Decorative Arts, Havana is situated at Calle 17 #502, in between E and D. Vedado, in Havana. The museum is open from Tuesday through Saturday.
