Christianborg in Copenhagen is a palace tucked on a small island called Slotsholmen or the Castle Island in the lovely Copenhagen Harbor. The Danish state owns the Christianborg palace and the Palaces and Properties Agency runs it.
Christianborg, Copenhagen houses the country's 3 supreme powers namely the legislative power, executive power and the judicial power. The palace faced two fires, once in 1794 and then in 1884. The current Christianborg palace which stands majestically in Slotsholmen was built in 1928. The building reflects Neo-baroque style of architecture.
Previously Slotsholmen housed many castles like the Absalon's Castle and the Copenhagen Castle. The current Christianborg, Copenhagen palace houses the Prime Minister's Office, Supreme Court, Parliament, Chapel, Queen's Library, audience chambers. The ruins of the Copenhagen Castle and the Bishop Absalon's Cstle lie beneath the current Christianborg palace. The ruins were unearthed in 1917 and a protective covering had been built over these ruins since.
