Kastellet in Copenhagen is one of North Europe's well preserved fortifications. The Kastellet, Copenhagen is built in the shape of a pentagram. It consists of 5 bastions namely the Kongens Bastion( King's Bastion), Dronningens Bastion(Queen's Bastion), Prinsens Bastion(Prince's Bastion) and the Prinsessens Bastion( Princess's Bastion). The Kastellet, Copenhagen houses a church, windmill, prison and a well. The prison stands beside the church. The building of the Kastellet began in 1626 by King Christian IV of Denmark. The construction started with the laying of the entrenchment towards the northern side of fortification wall. Later the work was continued by his successor, King Frederick III of Denmark. The Kastellet served to defend the city against England during the Battle of Copenhagen. During 1989-1999 funds were collected and the Kastellet underwent renovation.
