The Renaissance styled property of Bymuseet Montergarden was built by one Falk Goye in 1646. The place derived its name from its location at Street Montergarden, overlooking the city landmark of Overgrade. The walls are brickpainted and the roof features handmade tiles making it a unique structure in the city. The residence was converted into a grocery store in the middle of 18th Century but it was converted into a museum in 1941 after the property was bought by the city of Odense.

The two-storey building features an exhibition titled 'Fine Funen Finds' on the first floor while the ground floor is dedicated to an exhibition named 'Creative Man'. The exhibitions are artifact-oriented presentations which trace the history of mankind from early Palaeolithic Age and Viking Age making it very popular among the tourists.
