Geography: Denver is nestled within the South Platte River Valley along the High Plains, lying towards the east side of the Southern Rocky Mountains. Denver, as a whole is a densely inhabited city while being the capital of the State of Colorado. History: Denver originated within the Kansas Territory in the year 1858. Kansas, a community from Lawrence laid the foundation of Montana City along the South Platte River bank. This place was later on recognized as the Denver city. But this land was abandoned in course of time. It was during the month of November 22, 1858, General William Larimer of eastern Kansas, claimed the hilly region where the South Platte River converged with the Cherry Creek. This region was accepted as the Denver city and was founded as a tribute to the Kansas Territorial Governor James W. Denver.
