Geography: Dublin is one of the largest city within the Republic of Ireland, which is also a prime capital of the province. Nestled within the eastern side of the Ireland's coastal region along the River Liffey that defines the boundary of the Dublin Region. When one refers about Dublin along with its adjoining areas, the significant counties that the region is adjoined to are the areas of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, Fingal and South Dublin. The two chief mountain ranges that one can sight are the northern Alps that unite along the western range within the Ireland. The Caledonian range travel from Scandinavia leading towards the Scotland in north and meeting the western range in Ireland. It is here one may come across high mountain rises and rocky landscapes of Donegal, Mayo and Galway Counties. History: It is said that the Greek writer, astronomer and the cartographer named as Ptolemy made its innovative reference towards the province of Dublin. The heritage of 'Dubh Linn' belong to the first century BC that merged with the city of 'Baile Átha Cliath' which was even called 'Áth Cliath' that existed way back in the year 1988. The term Dublin derived from the Anglicized version of 'Dubh Linn' which meant black pool in Irish language. It was the Normans who spelt the word as 'Develyn' or 'Dublin'. Presently the province maintains the former anglicized name while being referred to the latter Irish term. Dublin became the capital of Ireland, soon after the Norman Conquest with Ireland. The main authority lied in the hands of the Dublin Castle. It was during the 14th century, Dublin remained under major administrative control within the Ireland territory.


Society and Cultural Life: This chief European cultural center of Dublin, Ireland witness’s the emergence of several outstanding figures. The National Print Museum of Ireland, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Chester Beatty Library, the National Gallery and the National Library of Ireland, Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery, along with National Museum of Ireland are also based in Dublin. The place is a home to several art galleries and art centers. The society of Dublin is filled with majority of Roman Catholics thriving within the region. English and Gaelic is the official vernacular spoken by the natives.

One can even opt the bus route that leave from the Dun Laoghaire ferry terminal and Dublin. Bus Éireann is the national bus line plying in the area, based at Busáras that are pretty cheaper. One can even opt for Airlink express buses that leave from the airport. Train are pretty expensive and initiates from Connolly station that reach you to the north of Dublin and the next leaving from the Heuston station while reaching the west, south and southwest sectors.
  • Traveling in Dublin, Ireland – Bus, Taxis and Cars are the best mode of transportation while traveling within the provinces of Dublin. One can travel in bus and trains that are provided by the Dublin Area Rapid Transport (DART) service. Though taxis are expensive but buses can be best availed.

Administration and Government: Dublin is even known as 'Urban Dublin' or the Dublin Metropolitan Area. The natives of Dublin are called as Dubliner or as Jackeen. Dublin is managed and administered by the Dublin City Council. The city does not concentrate executive powers to a single body but rather divides it. The authority is vested both on the council and on selected executive representative, which are called as Manager. The Dublin City Manager has the power of being the chief executive within the council. Presiding over 6,200 members, the civic offices rest along the Wood Quay. The Lord Mayor of Dublin has to execute two chief functions one being looking after the chair of council, while the next being heading the government in city level.

Educational Institutions: Dublin holds three main universities that help in higher education. Study in one of the oldest institution that is The University of Dublin that is based in the region from 16th Century. Trinity College is quietly based within the university. The National University of Ireland is also one of the largest universities in Ireland nestled within Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, outside the Dublin boundary provinces. Dublin City University (DCU) imparts training on business, engineering, and science subjects. The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) is a famous medical college-imparting student techniques related to the medical and science industry. Dublin Institute of Technology teaches students the relevant technical subjects including arts and humanities. The National College of Art and Design (NCAD) and Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (DLIADT) is an apt place to learn about art, design and media related topics.
