Sightseeing in Ibarra also features one of the most magnificent churches of the city, the Basilica de la Dolorosa, which is located several blocks south of downtown on the Calle Sucre.

It has a rich collection of Inca and pre-Inca relics. The museum is situated at the corner of calles Sucre and Oviedo. It is open on Mondays through Saturdays from 9 am until 5 pm. Admission fee is nominal.

There is also a small museum of colonial-era attached to the Iglesia Santo Domingo. The church comprises of large carved wooden doors and includes a small park with a statue of Simon Bolivar. The museum is open daily from 9 am till noon, and from 2 to 6 pm. Admission is nominal. The church is located north of the downtown area.

Visit the San Antonio de Ibarra, which is a small and unique town of Ibarra in Ecuador. The small town of San Antonio de Ibarra and you will get to see how local woodcarvers transform the raw wood into a high piece of art. The town is full of galleries selling wood figurines in almost every shape and size and all of them re beautifully hand-painted.

Laguna Yahuarcocha or Yahuarcocha Lake is sited a few miles outside the city and is a popular local spot for picnics and small-boat outings.
