Otavalo Indian Market: Located two hours north of Quito this is the most famous indigenous market in Ecuador. From here you can take back home some beautiful Ecuadorian handicrafts. The Saturdays are bigger but the weekdays are also impressive. Shopkeepers come from nearby villages and towns such as Peguche, Agato and Iluman, to sell their products. You can also visit the Spanish treadle looms where you can see how the artisans make felt hats, sweaters and straw mats. Do not forget to visit the small town of Calderon, Cayambe and San Pablo Lake. You can also stop over the Peguche waterfall and Cuicocha crater lake.
