Although the museum may bear his name it has got nothing to do with the poet. It is so named because prior to its construction it was the home of Remigio Crespo Toral. The construction of the museum began in 1910 and was completed back in the year 1917.
The Remigio Crespo Toral Museum is dedicated to the history of Ecuador and more particularly to that of Cuenca. Inside the Remigio Crespo Toral Museum visitors can find some 8 000 pieces of items which are of immense archaeological significance. These include gold items from the Canar and Chordeleg cultures as well as ceramics from the pre-Hispanic era.
