Museums in Guayaquil: Casa de la Cultura

The Casa de la Cultura museum possesses the most precious primitive gold work collection in Ecuador. The collections mostly belong to the ancient inhabitants of the coast. The visitors will see traditional pots, snake-shaped bracelets, nose rings, gold pieces that were used on the lips and cheeks, involved pins used to tie clothing, chest shields, ceremonial masks and earrings. The plenty of gold reminded the hunger of the Spanish conquerors who saved and sent huge quantities of this valuable metal back to Spain.

The archeological objects such as the Ocarinas that is the clay whistles, stone head rests, molds for gold masks and clay seals are believed to be of Egyptian power. There are also many colonial art pieces too. The works of nameless painters, as well as the known artists of the colonial period such as Goribar and Rodriguez are also available at the museum.

Museums in Guayaquil: The Municipal Museum

The Municipal Museum is situated at the corner of Sucre Street and Pedro Carbo. This museum has four sections. They are:

  • Archeology
  • History
  • Colonial Art
  • Modern Art

All the divisions possess a magnificent collection of pieces. One of the things the guests will see is the tzanzas that is the shrunken heads. Certain tribes of the jungle made them with a secret process to decrease the size of human heads. This was done particularly to defend themselves from their enemies. The secrecy of this process has not been exposed yet.
