Most of these works were done by the painters and the sculptors belonging to the Quito School. On the walls of the convent, you would find various precious linen cloths with allegories to the passion of Christ, the Assumption of Maria and the life of the saints like Francisco de Asi's and Diego of Alcala.

The beginning of the Convent of San Diego, Quito can be traced back to the time when the clergymen of Ecuador decided to built enclosures so that they could stay in a seclusion away from the din and bustle of the city. This led to the beginning of the Convent of San Diego in Quito. The construction of the Convent of San Diego, Quito began from the end of 16th century. In 1598, the permission of constructing the building was obtained from the Town Hall due to the initiative of Father Bartolomeo Rubio. By the year 1602, enough land was accumulated by donation to construct a building having three blocks.

Other than these linen cloths, there are other artifacts in this Convent of Quito which are worth watching. The pieces which are of great interest are the pulpit. The architecture that you can find in the convent is an example of baroque work of century XVIII. Another important artifact is the image of Virgin of Chiquinquira. The crucifix of Bohemian Almeida father is the other artifact at the Convent of San Diego in Quito.

By the end of 1603 the construction of the church was complete and the convent was in its place. In the year 1626, the internal patios of the convent were completed. During the year 1650, the convent already had twenty monks enjoying a serene life. Still some more construction works needed to be done and these works were bestowed to the monk Manuel de Almeida. His works included the stairs connecting the nocturnal and the Bohemian City.

The Convent of San Diego, Quito was completed in the later half of the 18th century and had the appearance of a hermitage in the midst of a forest.
