It is presumed that one point of time it was an Incan Palace. The galleries of the main floor of the museum are used for hosting various temporary art exhibitions and for entering here you do not have to pay any fee. The large open courtyard has a glass ceiling. In the second level of the El Centro Cultural Metropolitano, Quito you would find the Museo Alberto Mena Caamaño. This museum is one of those few museums which at one point of time served as a prison and at some other point of time served as a University. However, now this museum houses a huge collection of colonial art.

The guide will also take you to a tour of the old Jesuit residences and the basement area of the Museo Alberto Mena Caamaño, where the prisoners used to stay.
