The Fundacion Guayasamin, Quito houses a huge collection of the artwork of the famous artist Oswaldo Guayasamín. You would find the Fundación Guayasamín Museum of Quito to be located atop a hill from where the visitors can have a good look at the surrounding landscapes.
Fundacion Guayasamin, Quito was established in the year 1977 and is a non-profit organization with the mission of promoting the ideology as well as the works of Oswaldo Guayasamín. The institution plays a major role in organizing various major events, concerts and publications of Ecuador. It was the idea of Oswaldo Guayasamín to be a comprehensive center of culture.
During his career as a sculptor and a painter, Oswaldo was the winner of various awards. After founding the Fundacion Guayasamin, Quito he decided to donate all his awards as well as all the artworks to this institution. The artworks of Oswaldo, which are housed in this museum, are notable for the intense expression of emotions that you can find in them. He was a major political activist and his works reflected his notion about the dictatorial governments in South America. The masterpiece that you can find here is "La Edad de la Ira" which can be roughly translated as the 'Age of Anger'.
You would find three different sections in the Fundación Guayasamín Museum in Quito. In the first part which is the El Museo Arqueologico, you can see Oswaldo's personal collection of Columbian art. The other two sections of the museum contain the artist's own works. In the Fundación Guayasamín Museum various workshops are also hosted. It also houses an excellent art library with huge collection of books and publications on the progress of art worldwide. Concerts and exhibitions are daily affairs of the museum. You can also have a stroll in the surrounding garden and enjoy watching the beautifully decorated garden.
You would find that the Fundación Guayasamín, Quito is open on Mondays to Fridays from 9 am in the morning to 12.30 in the noon. It again reopens at 3 pm and is open till 6.30 pm. On Saturdays it is open from 9 am to 12.30 pm.
