One of the favorite tourist destinations in Egypt is the Graeco- Roman Museum, Alexandria. The Graeco- Roman Museum is counted for the best collection of items from the Classical Era. There are plenty of excellent statues, sarcophagus, jewels, textiles and tiny objects of all sorts displayed in the Graeco- Roman Museum, Alexandria.

As you visit the great historical city of Alexandria, you must surely travel to this Graeco- Roman Museum in Alexandria. The museum is founded in the year of 1892. Its vast collection has been gathered together for over hundred of years and the museum also has product of donations from wealthy Alexandrians as well as of excavations led by successive directors of the institution both from within the city and surrounding areas.

Certain objects have come from the Organization of Antiquities at Cairo, particularly those associated with the Pharaonic period and from various digs undertaken at the beginning of the century in The Fayoum and at Benhasa in middle Egypt. Housed within an historic building, the Graeco- Roman Museum consists of 27 halls and an attractive garden, which offer an excellent introduction to the Greek and Roman art of ancient Egypt.

As said before the Graeco- Roman Museum, Alexandria was first built in 1892 as a small building located on the Horreya Road. In 1895, it was transferred to the present site near Gamal Abdul Nasser Road. It initially started with 11 galleries, and has been gradually enlarged and the 25th gallery was inaugurated in 1984.

The museum contains hundreds of precious antiques and coins from different countries of the world.

Room 1: In this room, tourists can see the beautiful alabaster Good Shepherd. Part of the hall displays artifacts from the Monastery of St. Menas.

Room 2: Contains many architectural elements from early Christian buildings.

Room 3: This room has a great collection of metal, silver and gold. There is the silver torso of Aphrodite and a varied collection of ancient jewelry with different magnificent colors.

Room 4: Contain Coptic textiles of the Christian period.

Room 5: An ancient model of a water cooling system.

Room 6: See the Apis Bull in this room.

Room 7: The two headless sphinxes, carved under Amenhemhet IV and the two headless black basalt statues of Isis is here.This room is devoted to mummies and sarcophagi’s.

Room 9: This room is mainly dedicated to the Crocodile-god, Pnepheros.

The other rooms contain various interesting statues, with Egyptian and Greek influences
