Mount Sinai in Taba is one of the historical places located in the Sinai Peninsula. It is located between the Mediterranean Sea and Red Sea forming a land bridge which is quite an incredible sight. There is a popular belief that at this mountain Moses is said to have received the Ten Commandments. There is a monastery at the foot of the mountain which is considered to be a holy site. It is said that in that the Christian saints and hermits in search for seclusion used to visit this holy mountain in the early period of Christendom. In 330 AD a chapel was built at the site which was dedicated to Virgin Mary.

The ancient monks reported about large scale massacres which led to the construction of fortress in 527 AD by Emperor Justinian in order to protect the hermits of the high mountains. The entrance of this fortress is made of wooden frames which bear the names of the emperor, his wife Theodora and the architect’s name. This is one of the oldest fortified monasteries which houses monks from different nationalities.

Besides you can also go for various trekking trails as soon as the first ray of light touches the ground. You will get the spectacular views of the Red sea and other distant mountains of Saudi Arabia. Here you will also find verdure of cypress trees where Prophet Elijah is said to have heard the voice of God. While trekking in Mount Sinai if you run out of steam you can take help of the Bedouin guides. You should make a serious effort to go up the steps of repentance. There are more than 3000 steps. You can climb up these steps which were once built by the monks to reach the summit. If you reach the summit you will find the Chapel of the Holy Trinity which was built in 1934.You will be mesmerized by the awesome sight of the sunrise over the mountains. Mount Sinai, Taba is of great religious importance and is a magnificent Sinai attraction which draws a lot of locals and international travelers. It is a sacred place for the devotees who often visit this place.
