The Blue Desert



The Blue Desert, Taba is one of the major sightseeing places in Taba which has become increasingly popular among the travelers. The Blue Desert, Taba is located at a distance of 10 kilometers from the Monastery of St Katherine. If you ever visit Sinai you should not miss the opportunity to visit The Blue Desert in Taba. Just drive along the route which starts near the tomb of Sheikh Nabi Sala and leads to Wadi Feiran which is the largest and most picturesque valley in the Sinai Peninsula. This road further stretches on to the coast of the Gulf of Suez. This is an ancient route which was initially discovered by the pilgrims. It is a popular belief that this famous route was discovered by Mousa on his way to St Katherine.

Once you reach the Wadi you will be mesmerized by the breath taking sceneries which will transport you to a different world. The granite structures and boulders along with various flowering plants cover the desert floor which adds to the magnificence of this place. The valley is also covered with vast stretches of Palm groove. The Blue Desert is an ideal place for carrying out various adventure activities which include trekking, camping and walking trails. You can also do a lot of nature photography in the valley which is known for its natural beauty. Besides you can also visit the nearby sites which are in close vicinity.

There were various explorations carried out by the archeologists who revealed that the churches built in the area dated back some where between fourth and seventh century AD. The ruins recovered by the archeologists show the importance of this place during the ancient times.When you reach this place you will find a numerous rocks painted in blue scattered here and there for nearly fifteen square kilometers. These rocks were painted in Blue by the Belgian Artist Jean Vera in the year 1980. This was done to celebrate the end of war between Egypt and Israel. The Blue Desert, Taba is one of the renowned sightseeing places in Sinai which draws numerous tourists worldwide every year.
