The Soomaa National Park is a large complex of five extensive bogs. All these are located in the catchment of one of the longest rivers in the country named the Parnu River. The Soomaa National Park was included in the important nature protection areas of Europe in 1997. It also comes under the Ramsar list of wetlands.

    Matsalu National Park

    The Matsalu National Park is one of the leading national parks in Estonia. It is situated on the western coast. It is renowned all over the world as a bird watching area. The Matsalu National Park has been a reserve since the year 1957. It came under the international Ramsar Convention in 1976. The Matsalu National Park in Estonia is situated around a shallow bay of the Baltic Sea. It has got extensive reed beds which are ideal for the migrating birds. You will also find meadows, floodplains and alvar lands in the Matsalu National Park. Covering an area of 486.4 kmē or 188 square miles, the park comprises land and water areas that encompass the Matsalu Bay along with the delta of the Kasari River and the surrounding areas. The Matsalu National Park has a record of receiving a total of 275 bird species.
