Sigatoka is a town in Fiji Island and is also one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Fiji. The town is found on the island of Viti Levu and is situated at the mouth of the Sigatoka River. Sigatoka is named after the river. It is situated some 69 kilometers from Nadi airport. According to the census of 1996, it had a population of 7940. Sigatoka is the mail town in Fiji's popular Coral Coast region.
Sigatoka was incorporated as a Town in the year 1959. It is governed by a 10-member Sigatoka Town Council, which is elected for every three-year term. The town has a busy market place and supplies the Coral Coast region with most of the commercial needs. Tourist won't find a problem finding an accommodation. Though the town of Sigatoka does not have any hotels or resorts but the famous Coral Coast is near by and has a number of accommodation options, from resorts, home rentals and also budget accommodation.
Tourist Attractions in Sigatoka:-
The main attraction of the town is the ornate mosque that dominates the Sigatoka skyline. Some of the other tourist attractions include the sand dunes near the Kulukulu village. The village is situated two kilometers to the south of Sigatoka. The Kula Bird Park, which houses some 500 birds of 100 species from many tropical countries is also a must see attraction in the town. Take you family for a visit to this bird park and enjoy watching the wide variety of birds.
