New Year in Finland is the extended celebration of Christmas itself. The decorations begin with early December and even after Christmas is over the festive aura remains. On the 31st of December the people come together to usher the new year and the following day they can have a day off before kick staring for the next year. The moment the clock strikes 12. The people leave their immediate activities to burst out in chorus- ‘Hyvää Uuttavuotta’ that is Finnish for Happy New Year. Bottles of champagne are opened and people click glasses and wish each other a prosperous year ahead.
