This airport was built in the 1930s and renovated by the German army during the Second World War. In 1956 it was put into commercial use. After the founding of the low-cost carrier Ryan air, it became the third-largest Paris airport, the company having made Beauvais Tillé its Paris-area terminal. It is actually located in the community of Tillé, 3.5 km north-northeast (NNE) of Beauvais.

As of 2005, the Paris Beauvais Tillé Airport had three gates, housed within a marquee tent while the permanent facilities were being redeveloped. The airport is not serviced by public transport; many passengers use a private scheduled coach for a 75-minute trip to Paris, ending beside the Palais de Congrès, located in the 17th arrondissement, approximately a kilometer west of the Arc de Triomphe. The fare is 13 Euro each way. Many important flights to France fly from this airport.
