Le Mont-Saint-Michel or rather Mount saint Michael in English is a small island in Normandy and one of the major tourist attractions of France. It is located on the northern coast of France at the mouth of the River Couesnon.
Mount Saint Michael is basically a tidal island formed by years of erosion. It is connected to the mainland by means of a natural bridge, which is visible during low tide and covered by water during high tide. However, the bridge has been modernized today and is thus visible all the time and is thus not affected by the sea. In ancient times this mount was a Armorican stronghold. Today, this historic place has been designated as a 'World Heritage Site' by UNESCO.
Le Mont-Saint-Michel with its villages, ancient monuments, churches, cathedrals, coastal areas and the scenic beauty is a popular tourist attraction of France. One of the biggest attractions of this place is the Benedictine Abbey Church. It was the first church, which was built in the year 708. The entire fortification was built on a giant granite rock measuring 84 meters high.
One can easily come to this famous tourist site by boat. One can also come to Normandy and from there come to this historic place after crossing the land bridge. One can check out the villages over here or simply sit and relax on the grasslands surrounding this fortification.
