It was originally a hunting lodge, which was later turned out to be a grand palace after King Louis XIV added extensions to it in the year 1669. The palace was originally designed by Philibert Le Roy, while Jules Hardouin Mansart was the man who was responsible for converting this hunting lodge in a grand palace.

One of the biggest attractions of this palace is the Hall of Mirrors, also known as Salon of Mirrors and Galerie des Glaces. Built by Louis XIV, this hall, located on the first floor of the palace, is known for its 357mirrors. There are a total of seventeen arcades on which these mirrors are placed. This hall was used by the king as his council room. Though it was destroyed during the French revolution, it was later renovated by Napoleon. Other attractions in this palace include the Salon of Hercules, known for its frescoed walls and ceilings, and the Salon of Abundance. One can take a look at the Versailles Chapel, which is known for its grand interiors and fantastic baroque styled architecture.

or rather the Chateau de Versailles is open from Tuesday to Sunday. The visiting hours are from to 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The gardens and parks of the palace are open from 7:00 a.m. till sunset. Tickets and passes are available which one can go for.
