Whenever you see a crane flying in the sky you think of Lufthansa. Lufthansa airline is the flag carrier of Germany. There is no other airline is as large as Lufthansa in Europe. The name is amalgamation of two words. Luft which means air in German Hansa is derived from the Hanseatic League, which was a powerful trading group of medieval times.The airline was founded in 1926 in Berlin and the name was Deutsche Luft Hansa Akiengesellschaft. Since 1933 only one word has been used for the airline, ‘Lufthansa’. The II World War was responsible for suspension of the airline. In 1953 the airline was recreated and started its services. The international service of this new airline started from May 15th 1955 to Europe.
The logo of the airline, an encircled crane in flight was designed by Professor Otto Firle in 1918. It was adopted by the airline in 1926 from Aero Lloyd AG after it was merged with Deutsche Lufteederei GmbH.Slowly the airline started to expand its fleet and its destinations all over the world. Now Lufthansa Airline is the sixth largest airline in the world. Cologne is the base of this airline. Frankfurt international airport is the main hub for Lufthansa. It has second hub at Munich international airport.Since Germany is centrally located and the country shares its borders with many other European countries it attracts many travelers. Lufthansa offers its services to more than 200 destinations all over the world. It operates flights to about 100 countries in the world.
In 1997 Lufthansa became the founder member of Star Alliance. Till date it is the largest airline alliance. The fleet of Lufthansa consists of aircrafts from Airbus and Boeing companies. The Airbus aircrafts A300-600R, A319-100, A320-200, A321-200, A330-300, A340-300, A340-600, and A380-800 are in service for Lufthansa.
