Leipzig Zoo, Germany

The Leipzig Zoo, Germany is a zoo of mysteries. There are a host of animal attractions in this zoo. Leipzig Zoo, Germany is better known as the city's Zoologischer Garten. It has an African Savannah (Afrika) renowned for its lions, tigers, zebras, a group of elephants in the 'Asian' zone and mountain gorillas and orangutans in 'Pongoland'.

A whole day can be spent in the Leipzig Zoo, Germany. It is one of the favorite zoos in Germany for children. Children generally enjoy the playground areas, the face painting, the safari train and the children's petting zoo. The petting zoo features donkeys, sheep and goats. Other attractions include the monkey house, aviaries with exotic birds and a big aquarium.

The Leipzig Zoo, Germany, one of the finest German Zoos was founded in the late 19th century. There are certain concessions in the zoo fees. Besides, parents whose children are under four years do not have to pay anything for them.

Leipzig Zoo, Germany is one of the oldest Germany Zoological Parks. It is one of the most progressive zoos in the country. Eventually, it has opened several new pavilions such as the Aquarium, Lions' Savannah, the Temple of Elephants "Ganesha Mandir" and the Pongoland, the land of the apes. The word "Pongo" is used in Angola for four ape species. Pongoland was opened in 2001 and is one of the world's largest enclosures for primates. In this section gorillas live along with two separate groups of chimpanzees, orang-utans, bonobos (chimp-like apes) and a gibbon.

The gorilla troop in the Leipzig Zoo, Germany has five members: male Gorgo with two females and two young ones. Virginika is the mother to little Kibary. Bebe, the other adult female gave birth to Louna. The floor of this gorilla zone is not covered with wood chips but has a layer of soil with green plants. A brook and a pond can also be seen over here. The keepers feed the animals from elevated platforms or from the back room.

There is co- operation between the Leipzig Zoo, Germany and other leading German institutions on scientific projects. The ape behavior in Pongoland is being studied by the Evolution Anthropology Department of the Max Planck Institute. Such efforts keep the animals fit and fine.
