Motorsports in Germany



Germany in central Europe, bordering the North sea and the Baltic sea lies between Poland and Netherlands lies south of Denmark. Deutsch is the official language of Germany and Deutsche mark was the official currency till the Euro was introduced in 2002. It is divided in 16 administrative divisions and the parliament here is known as Bundestag. A series of episodes in the German history changed its fate forever. The Berlin wall was built by the allies after they took over Germany following its defeat in the second world war.

The construction of the Berlin wall began on august 13, 1961 after which Germany was divided into east Berlin and west Berlin through the wall. The federal republic of Germany came into being in east Berlin while the German democratic republic was established in west Berlin. Following the demolishment of the Berlin wall, the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic unified on 3 October 1990. Today Germany flourishes in trade and commerce. Its ship-building industry is one of the biggest in the world. Trade is carried on through various ports like Halle, Magdeburg, Bremen, Brake, Rostock, Bonn and many others.

Sport is a way of life in Germany and the country has made tremendous contributions in the field of motorsports. Audi, Germany’s leading brand for sports cars came into being after series of mergers and collaborations in the 19th and the 20th century. Germany also has the credit of developing and introducing brands like Volkswagen and Mercedes Benz. The German motorsports gained international recognition in 1950. Motorsports is divided in two categories: motorcar racing and motorcycle racing. The German motorcycle Grand Prix was first held in 1925 and it is a part of the Grand Prix motorcycle racing world-championship since 1952. The German racecar constructors include ATS (wheels), BMW sauber, Zakspeed, Mercedes Benz in motorsports, Porsche (motorsports), Auto union, Kauhsen, klenk and many others. They comprise the first step in motorsports. Constructing a tough and sturdy racing car with all proper controls and gears is their task.

Some of the German motorsport venues are AVUS on the outskirts of Berlin, EuroSpeedway Lausitz in the state of Brandenburg, Grenzlandring between Monchengladbach ad the Dutch town of Roermond, Motorsport Arena Oscersleben near Magdeburg, Sachsenring near Chemnitz in Saxony, Norisring in Nuremberg, Hocken Heimring in Baden-Wurttemberg, Scottenring (venue for the motorcycle Grand Prix in 1953)in Hesse, The German auto racing teams include Rial, A1, Kauhsen, Zakspeed, Porsche Junioren, Freisinger motorsport, Schnitzer motorsport, Team Rosberg, Toyota team Europe, Kremer racing, Seikel Motorsport and many others. The Grand Prix of Germany, European Grand Prix, 1000km Nurburgring, 24hours nurburgring are the major automobile races in Germany. The Grand Prix of Germany is held in at Hockenheimring and McLaren Mercedes is its pole constructor. It is an annual automobile racing event in Germany and has 67 laps, a 4.57 km long circuit and 306.46 km race length.Michael Schumacher, Ralf Schumacher, Kimi Raikonnen, Jan Lammers, Marco Campos, Tony Schmidt, Tobias Blattler, Michael Krumm, Bas Leinders to name a few, are the German Formula 3 championship drivers.
